“I’d forgotten about dreams. When you’re trying to survive on a day-to-day basis, you don’t have time for dreams. You have to deal with reality. zAmya theater helped me improve and change my life.” - Darrell Coles

In 2004, zAmya founder Lecia Grossman convened a group of artists and housing advocates to devise a container for building relationships between housed and homeless individuals. Theater was chosen as the container for this work because of its unique ability to center personal narratives, shift culture, and build interdependence.

Since then, zAmya has impacted 25,000 people through nearly 500 live performances, workshops, and broadcasts held in locations including shelters, libraries, boardrooms, parks, theaters and the internet. We have grown from an annual performance during National Hunger and Homelessness Week to a year-round organization that has worked with over 200 partners across the state in housing, social services, health, and the arts, initiating human-centric conversations around systemic barriers everywhere we go.

Your contribution will help us continue the story.
