A New Era for zAmya Theater Begins: Support Our Future!

As of November 1, 2018, zAmya Theater is no longer part of St. Stephen's Human Services’ programming. We’re grateful to have had many years of support from St. Stephen’s, and are now looking to the future.

zAmya is working with an advisory board to plan for the organization’s next phase. We’re working with Propel Nonprofits as our fiscal sponsor and have secured office space at Pillsbury House + Theatre. We are still exploring long-term partnerships.

Before St. Stephen's Human Services announced its cuts in programming, zAmya had secured funding for projects through 2018 and in 2019. We intend to continue our important advocacy and education work, starting with these dynamic projects in the next year:

  • STORIES FROM THE BOOK OF HARBOR LIGHT (Nov. 2018 - March 2019)
In partnership with the Salvation Army – Harbor Light Center and Hennepin Theater Trust, zAmya will create a short play festival with residents at Harbor Light.

  • A PRAIRIE HOMELESSNESS COMPANION (Nov. 2018 – Aug. 2019)
In partnership with the Southwest MN Housing Partnership, zAmya is developing workshops that will build to a play in three Southwest MN Communities: Wilmar, Marshall and Worthington.

  • CREATIVE EXPRESSION SESSIONS AT HENNEPIN COUNTY LIBRARY – MINNEAPOLIS CENTRAL (2019)
zAmya will continue its partnership with the library serving patrons experiencing homelessness with weekly workshops and pop-up performances.

  • SECOND CHANCE (Ongoing)
Now available for booking, SECOND CHANCE is a new play about what it looks like to get a second chance in life. It’s the culmination of ACTivation: Changing the Conversation on Homelessness Downtown, zAmya’s residency at the Hennepin County Library – Minneapolis Central on Nicollet Mall in partnership with the Minneapolis Downtown Improvement District.
