MY BODY MY HOME: A Shareformance

Join us for a work-in-progress showing exploring displacement, movement, and the meaning of home.

The community is invited to the Minneapolis Central Library plaza for a special, live "Shareformance"—a work-in-progress showing of MY BODY MY HOME.

MY BODY MY HOME is a unique collaboration between zAmya Theater Project and acclaimed choreographer Lelis Brito. This performance-based project brings together housed and unhoused community members to explore the profound experience of displacement, and how individuals find a sense of "home" within their own bodies and environments.

This live showing is the culmination of a five-week summer workshop series hosted at the Minneapolis Central Library and the Hennepin Center for the Arts. Participants who have experienced homelessness have collaborated with Brito to develop and rehearse movement patterns—focusing on the physical gestures, routines, and expressions people engage in to manage emotions and cultivate a sense of safety and belonging.

Come support the performers, witness the creative process in the heart of downtown, and experience how movement can build understanding across our community.

What is a "Shareformance"?

It is an interactive, community-centered sharing of art. Rather than a rigid, traditional performance, this work-in-progress showing invites the audience into the creative exploration, honoring the shared space and lived experiences of both the performers and the onlookers.

What Comes Next?

Movement vignettes will be filmed at site-specific locations across downtown Minneapolis and edited into a 10-minute dance film.

  • November 2026: Outdoor film premiere projected on a loop outside the Cowles Center, accompanied by a community gathering for housed and unhoused audiences.

  • Spring 2027: Indoor Film Screening alongside a broader showcase of other zAmya works.

About the Collaborators

Lelis Brito is a Venezuelan-American theater director, choreographer, educator, performer, writer, and director of the Center for Moving Cultures (CMC). The core of Brito’s work is the human body’s potential and activation—clarifying choice-making through the knowledge gained within the direct experience of a moving, sensing body.

This activity is made possible by the Bridge Fund for Dance program through the City of Minneapolis Arts & Cultural Affairs Department.
