All the health education curriculum and study materials are actually written by the public health educators. Those who are employed in the corporate sector are also accountable for the wellness programs designed for the employees. These people also write grants for obtaining funds to execute the health education policies along with some other special programs. Those who possess any kind of advanced degree in this field can also teach in health education plan of colleges and can also take up research work at major universities.

Another option for the public health educators is to start their own work as consultants, trainers and grant writers, who work for other agencies. Those educators, who have a long experience in this sector and also possess advanced degrees, can also take up the job of a supervisor. They can also become executive directors or education directors of other agencies. In the time to come there will be a growth in this sector and the role of such educators will also become important, as numerous reforms are being introduced in the sector of health care.

As a public health care professional, you confront complex health issues. You protect and serve local, national, and even international communities. You strive to control infectious diseases, educate the public about health and hygiene, minimize environmental hazards, injury, substance abuse, and violence, and provide others with better access to health care. You can use the following tips to become a better professional in your field and to make your career more fulfilling.

Be empathic and an effective communicator. As a public health care professional, you need to be proficient in listening and speaking. When listening to others, strive to put yourself in the shoes of those who are talking to you so you can better understand their situation. You may not fully understand their life, but being empathic is already an act of giving them emotional therapy. Additionally, become an effective communicator by using plain language to help others in understanding their health and the needs associated to it.

Use social networking sites. With so many social networking sites available, you can create and maintain an account on two or three sites. You can use such sites to disseminate real-time information, educate the public and promote awareness, and establish a deeper relationship with communities. More importantly, you can use the sites to save lives.

Get the masters in public health California offers. While experience is a good teacher, formal education can validate and enrich what experience teaches you. Get a master’s degree to deepen your knowledge in public health and enhance your proficiency in health practices. Such a degree is also helpful in steering your career to success.

You can join the public health masters program California offers under varying schedules. Depending on your chosen university, you can complete the program in more or less than 21 months. In some universities, you can complete it while maintaining full-time employment.

Contemplate, meditate, and reflect. Being a public health care professional and pursuing the masters in public health California offers expose you to stress. Handling your stress level is important to cope with the demands of your career and studies. Contemplating enables you to see things on a clearer perspective, and meditating allows you to regain balance and focus. Finally, reflecting equips you with the ability to make sense of what you experience so you can better appreciate and fulfill your calling as a responsible public health care professional.

A recent report by The Arizona Republic revealed that many Arizona residents have been faced with a difficult decision concerning their health due to financial hardship and economic downturn. Too many Arizona residents must choose between paying for health care or buying groceries, because of financial hardships. Lost jobs, reduced hours and debt collections are just a few of the hardships that have driven many Arizona residents to breaking point. Hard times have reportedly caused mental and physical health problems, including “difficulty falling asleep, changes in weight, anxiety, and lower energy levels,” according to the August 1, 2011 Arizona Republic report.

According to the First Command Financial Behaviors Index released in June, nearly three out of four middle-class families have reported mental or physical health problems associated with financial stress over the past year.

Many of the residents included in the report by The Arizona Republic, also reported experience with insurance woes and difficult choices due to financial stress.

Some of the unthinkable choices made by those included in the report involved a woman who had a bowel infection. The infection went untreated, because of her inability to pay for medical bills. This shocking story concluded with the infection leading to a leg amputation. Doctors told the woman’s family that if she had sought medical attention sooner, the amputation could have been prevented. However, the woman’s knowledge of her inability to pay for medical bills, kept her from seeking help.

It’s important for people that face financial hardships to realize that help is always available.

They just have to look for it. Seeking the help of professionals, who have experience dealing with financial burdens, could completely change a life’s direction for the better. Don’t let fear stop you from reaching out to find help, and don’t allow financial burdens prevent you from obtaining the help you need and deserve.

If you are experiencing health problems caused by financial stress such as a lost job, reduced hours or debt collections, learn about your rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Learn how to stop collection calls and start living a healthier, happier, stress-reduced life.

The catch word phrase these days is “everything should go green.” The dictionary defines green in relation to the environment as:

“Green” – (made with little harm to the environment, using renewable resources, or the politics of promoting the protection of our environment.)

In community associations, each individual can make a positive impact on our environment, and in some cases, we can save money by going green. Imagine supporting a cleaner and more efficient community and being a steward for its environmental health.

As we think about green communities, we need to look at the cost of making and keeping ourselves green.

It takes commitment of the Board of Directors and the community members to make a green community program work. All efforts focused on Green Communities Philosophy can make a difference in, not only your community, but also the world around you.

The management company for the community association should be committed to “Green Sustainable Communities” and already developed a paperless technology system that reduces the need for the more traditional paper form of communication in favor of the electronic version. In the past, property management companies had drawers upon drawers of files that contained file after file of information that is important.

Today virtually all of that information can be stored digitally and several filing cabinets full of information can be stored on the hard drive of a computer.

What does that mean to the green community? It means that they have just saved reams of paper, the ink to print it, and the energy the copier used to print the paper. In other words, every step we take to save the environment and use less energy is a contribution to a greener community, it all adds up.

Green Board of Directors Meetings

An example would be the Board that has reduced the multiple pieces of paper used in creating board packets for meetings. In some cases, what took 50 to 100 pages can now be as little as 8 pages. The rest should be available electronically and the board has reviewed it prior to the meeting or the manager can show them the information digitally. This method saves time, money, and contributes to a green community. In many cases, a document is created and subsequently reviewed by multiple people but never printed.

Did You Know? If you do not use one ton of paper you will save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, 3 cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy, 7000 gallons of water, and 60 pounds of air pollutants.

It is possible to have meetings via the telephone or email; however you must consider availability for members and compliance with any state laws that regulate electronic meetings. By holding electronic meetings, you can save the association time, money and the volunteer board members more time with their families.

Paperless technologies coupled with state of the art property management software can enable a community to be greener. A Board member can quickly look at the financial health, deed restriction violations and all primary management areas of the association from their computer without ever printing a piece of paper. In fact, board members should have access to more information digitally than ever before. In this case, green information means more information.

Green Community Energy Reduction & Recycling Plan

A community has the ability to evaluate and control a number of issues to make a positive impact by adopting a green philosophy.

Associations responsible for providing the waste disposal contractor should select one that has a recycling plan. For years, almost all waste disposal companies have been using recycling techniques. Use this as an important component for selecting a contractor and work with your community members to utilize the recycling programs.

Did You Know? Recycling a ton of plastic bottles saves 318 gallons of gasoline, or enough energy to run a refrigerator for a month.

Energy Consumption Audit Conduct an energy audit of your association. It is very simple to do. In reviewing most energy bills, you can see consumption and historical consumption. Look at the possibilities of developing an energy plan for the association that encourages members to use renewable energies or to inventory their energy consumption and develop an energy reduction plan. Invest your community in renewable energy sources. If the demand for renewable energy increases, the energy industry will move to accommodate the demand. The association Board of Directors has the ability to shape green communities and working with the members should exercise that ability.

Your management company should work with your power vendors in regulated and deregulated communities to get the best price available and to work with power companies that are concerned about the environment. They should also work with them to conduct an energy audit to determine those areas where we can save money and energy.

Each community is different and some are larger energy consumers than others. Here are a few areas to review to help make your community green.

Outside lights: Are they solar powered? If not, how much would it cost to change them to solar? This would also help in the event of a sustained power outage. Are you using energy efficient light bulbs?

Inside lights: Are they turned off when not in use? Consider changing the switches to motion switches or timers. Are you using energy efficient light bulbs?

Did You Know? Each incandescent light bulb that you replace with a compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb can save up to 56 watts an hour.

Electronic Equipment: Electronics usually have a power saving mode but even with this mode, they still consume electricity. Be sure electronics are switched off when not in use.

Did You Know? Monitors typically use about 80% of the energy that a computer uses, so you can use that to calculate how much energy you save by turning off the monitor. For example, with a 200 watt computer you’d be saving 160 watts per hour by turning off the monitor.

Pools: Are timers being used for heated pools and hot tubs or are they being heated year round? Are the lights energy efficient?

Community Center: How often are the HVAC filters changed? How old is the system? Older system fan motors and compressors were constructed when energy consumption was not a concern. Are appliances turned off when not in use?

Did You Know? By adjusting your thermostat down in the winter or up in the summer will reduce CO2 emissions by 500 pounds a year for each degree.

Tennis Court: Are there Lights? Are they energy efficient? Could they be solar powered?

Indoor Recreation Facilities: Is there an HVAC system? Is it energy efficient? Does it need to be changed to be more efficient? Is the system serviced regularly? Are the lights energy efficient?

Gates: Electric gates are usually easy to convert to solar and not very expensive. In the event of long-term power outages, electric solar powered gates can be very useful.

Park Restrooms: Is the water heater energy efficient? Are the lights energy efficient? Is the water use efficient or could it be reduced? These have been just a few examples of the steps a community can take to adopt a green community philosophy. Communities need to be aware of their energy consumption, recycling possibilities and the steps they can take to be proactive in creating green communities.

For those individuals practicing hypnosis, interested in hypnosis, or delving into the intricacies of hypnosis, a wide variety of information and support is offered through the hypnosis community. Answers and support are readily available, usually at the click of a button.

Social networking for people with a keen interest in hypnosis provides a way for professionals in the community to get together and discuss new and upcoming theories, techniques, and publications. Online services offer recreational networking for a wide range of interest levels. Professional hypnotists find recourse in lobbies dedicated to the growth of the profession, while dabblers in the field have access to videos, live entertainment, and interactive tutorials.

Specialized forums exist for every realm in the hypnosis universe.

Medical hypnosis communities thrive under the assertion fears, cravings, and addictions can be curtailed.

Individuals ascribing to the belief that the mind controls all aspects of the body use hypnosis to aid in relief from chronic illnesses. People with no health issues use hypnosis to empower loved ones suffering from incurable disease. The use of positive, hypnotic influence can lessen the burden of constant stress felt by people afflicted with painful maladies.

Many hypnosis support networks place utmost importance on proper understanding of what hypnosis really is. Opinions on this topic vary, but most networking sites agree that hypnosis is about learning to control the human mind, be it someone else’s or your own. In theory, controlling the mind opens the pathways of suggestibility. A suggestible mind can be persuaded to heal or to harm.

Many groups aligned by the common love of hypnosis seek only to better themselves. Self-help is a large part of the community, and it is for self-help that the community is most needed.

Having the support of others who share a common issue is important in any difficult situation. Self-help seekers in the hypnosis arena are able to share ideas, goals, and pitfalls. Where one hypnotist has tried and failed, another may be able to offer insight to ensure future success.

A more obscure area of interest for hypnosis networks involves sexuality. Seduction is considered a form of hypnosis, and this fetish opens up a different kind of community than the ones mentioned above.

Individuals interested in the more clandestine side of hypnosis can find these communities readily available. Dating, seducing, intensifying relationships are all topics of discussion in these chat rooms.

Starting a community is just as easy as joining one, and many people create outlets for the type of discussions they wish to partake in. Many regular social networking sites have subdivisions geared toward hypnosis.

If joining a private organization seems daunting, chances are one of the mass market communities has a niche available. As the field becomes more and more popular, the avenues for communicating with other hypnosis enthusiasts will increase.

A desire to learn, accompanied by the support of a community, makes networking a reasonable and tangible outlet for people of a shared interest. The positive benefits associated with hypnosis make it a perfect topic for a group of people already able and willing to offer one another support through a social setting.

There are many people who have the primary goal of weight loss and they turn to the lemonade diet to lose weight quickly. It has been stated that quick weight loss done happen, but it is not without great risk to one’s health. Many doctors have fought against these kinds of diets because there are individuals who can end up with life threatening situations after using these diets. Some individuals are unable to bounce back after such a strict liquid diet. Some individuals go the opposite of the strict diet and overindulge in everything. It can cause unhealthy choices to be made which may lead to other health issues.

There are those who successfully lose weight using the lemonade diet, but even they have to admit that some if not all of the weight comes back. Many times more weight is gained than was lost due to the body’s reaction to this diet.

Many times people believe that they can handle the ups and downs that come with using the lemonade diet can bring; they are often wrong. The desire to eat healthy may last for a little while, but it tends to fade over time. People often return to the eating whatever they crave after a while. There are many issues that come to light once the person returns to their old ways. It is not that they want to destroy all of the work that they accomplished using the lemonade diet, it sometimes can’t be helped. Many of the health issues that arise are discovered should the individual end up in the ER because of some other ailment.

There are several health issues that are discussed in connection with using the lemonade diet. Ketosis acidosis, anorexia, and the act of binging/purging are some of the health issues that tend to develop when using this diet.

Many tests are done to determine what may be going on with an individual. A urinalysis test is often done because it provides leads to the diagnosis of anorexia and ketosis acidosis (too much acid in the body). Many doctors feel that this is exactly the type of diet a person suffering from anorexia would use as a crutch of enablement.

The medical community agrees that fasting is OK as long as it is done appropriately. A juice diet of 3 to 5 day will definitely cleanse the body the right way.

In a global village that is shrinking faster by the day, millions of world citizens are hungry for news about their neighbours.Shared global concerns about peace, health, education, the environment, crime and terror, poverty and a never-ending list of issues, bind us together much more than our differences separate us.

The struggle to find meaning and common solutions to these problems drives the hunger for news that covers real issues. Five minute sound bite tastes cannot satisfy this global hunger for the sharing of ideas critical to the evolution of all humanity. Christiane Amanpour, CNN’s Chief International Correspondent, is now available to help fill this unsatisfied hunger for knowledge, facts, critical analysis of repercussions and possible solutions.

Beginning the second half of 2009, she will anchor her own prime time international news daily show.

And the world will watch enthralled and thrilled to be fed her special brand of information mixed with probing questions, deep analysis and practical solutions-oriented reporting.

As a world-renowned journalist covering a vast number of international stories, Christiane Amanpour has covered every important international news event. She believes it is important to be there in the midst of breaking news to get the facts straight and has practiced that in her long career, reporting from all the world’s hot-spots.

Her coverage of the Bosnian genocide helped shape her commitment to her craft:

When we’re not there, when we’re not there in a critical mass and we don’t tell the story and we don’t put our eyewitness testimony in the public sphere, then the most unspeakable evil can happen.

As a long-time fan of Christiane Amanpour, I wish her all the best and thank her for her commitment to getting substantial news about our collective global stories out to a world hungry for truth in its search for creative ways to live well together.

(1888PressRelease) Importance of drug patents, public-private partnerships highlighted.

Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV “There is a public health crisis in the least developed countries. It is a crisis made by humans and solvable only by humans. There is urgency for governments, businesses, NGOs and academia to collaborate in dealing with this most urgent of problems,” declares Cameron Institute’s new 200-page report, Pharmaceutical Access in Least Developed Countries: on-the-ground barriers and industry successes.

Executive Director D. Wayne Taylor, Ph.D., F.CIM., who prepared the report, cites the recent World Health Organization’s (WHO) Draft Global Plan and Strategy for Action in stressing the importance of pharmaceutical industry partnerships. The report states that the industry must focus its energies on “the growing burden of diseases and conditions that disproportionately affect developing countries, and particularly women and children.”

Global Health Progress actively supports the report’s outlined actions needed to solve this issue, including endorsement of public-private partnerships (PPPs), protecting intellectual property and drug patents as the cornerstones of affordable innovation, improving access to medicines and developing new drugs.

Public-private partnerships are one key way to improve access to medicines in the least developed countries. As the report notes, the research-based pharmaceutical industry, in various public-private partnerships, has been improving access to medicines in the least developed countries of the world since the 1950′s. To date, there have been 150 public-private partnerships whose aim it is to improve access to medicines and currently 90% of PPPs are industry-led.

Additionally, innovation is cited by the report as “the hallmark of the pharmaceutical industry. Without innovation there would be no immunizations, medicines or biologics to save lives, improve quality of lives, and to save much needed healthcare dollars. A basic right in law is to retain possession of one’s own ideas and discoveries.” The report also notes the importance of protecting this innovation through intellectual property and drug patents, as well as through the infrastructure and legal structures needed for healthy growth.

The report adds that every dollar invested in new medicines relieves the healthcare system of seven dollars of expenditure elsewhere, and that new drugs increase life expectancy and life-time income by about 1.0% per year while also decreasing years of life lost. It also provides a summary of 2010 data regarding contributions provided by research-based pharmaceutical industry to least developed countries:

USD 8,450,000,000 of product and investment
950,000,000 patients treated
9,500,000,000 doses/treatments administered
350,000 doctors, nurses and other health personnel trained

Despite this progress, actions are still needed to solve the problem without creating additional difficulties. For example, even though existing medicines for HIV/AIDS has reduced mortality rates in developed countries by 70%, adherence and compliance are two major obstacles, amongst many, to the successful deployment of these drugs in developing countries. Additional barriers to access and improved health in least-developed countries include “on the ground” barriers, such as market failure, corruption, non-existent health human resources and infrastructure, and the lack of both local and international political will.

During the Nationalist Party, or white government, days in South Africa, the only time the country made it into the international newspapers was when apartheid based atrocities and anti-apartheid campaigns were reported. It used to annoy the government immensely as they felt that the good stuff was being overlooked.

President Mbeki, and his apostles, must be feeling the same at this moment. The front page of the Independent in the UK says it all. ‘A President in denial, a nation denied hope’ is the headline. The article is in response to the firing of deputy health minister Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge.

Ms Madlala-Routledge had worked hard to obtain some form of credibility for the government. She had been outspoken about new treatment campaigns to ensure medication was available to infected people and co-authored a five year treatment action plan.

She had visited hospitals and pointed out how bad the health services were in some areas such as the Eastern Cape.

Mbeki and his Minister of Health Tshabalala-Msimang have been ridiculed by the world for their denial of the epidemic. Mbeki ascribed to the theory that HIV and AIDS were not linked and Tshabalala-Msimang maintained that eating beetroot and garlic were more useful than anti-retrovirals which she said were harmful to people. This is the country where coffins are made from cardboard because the wooden ones can’t be made quickly enough to fill demand.

The Deputy was fired, according to the South African press, for having attended an AIDS conference in Spain. It was felt that this was wasting tax payers’ money. Besides which this trip had apparently not been authorised. One might remember a Christmas a season ago when the Deputy President used tax payers’ money to use the government jet to take herself and a couple of buddies off to a shopping holiday in Dubai.

She certainly didn’t get fired for that unauthorised trip.

Which all points to the fact that the Deputy Minister’s firing had really very little to do with health issues. It has to do with political power. Mbeki has, during his years as president, surrounded himself with people whom he feels comfortable with and who have shown him total loyalty. These select few will remain within his orbit whether they do the job or not. The Deputy Health Minister, by undermining the power base of the Health Minister had to go.

Health Minister Tshabalala-Msimang is one of these apostles. She could decide to hand out arsenic pills at hospitals and she would not be fired. I suppose giving people beetroot and garlic to cure HIV/AIDS is about the same.

Political power is particularly relevant as the succession debate to Mbeki’s rule hots up. The issue centers around the new leadership of the ANC which will be determined shortly. At the same time, the head of the ANC is automatically appointed as president of the country. According to the constitution, President Mbeki may only serve two terms and he is completing his second term now.

This is not really a serious issue. One needs to remember that the ANC acquired over two thirds of the vote during the last general elections. This means the ANC is able to change the constitution. It could very well mean that Mbeki is padding his supporter base in preparation for re-election. He has indicated that he wishes to stand for the ANC leadership.

The consequences of the political maneuvers being played out are dire though. The public health system is falling apart at a rapid rate, and not only with respect to HIV/AIDS treatment. Reports on the state of public hospitals are dire. According to one Doctor quoted in the Independent, people are dying in the queues.

The absolute tragedy is that South Africa has money in the bank to improve the health system. Not only did Finance Minister Trevor Manuel submit a surplus budget in February this year, but today’s South African version of the Independent states that the taxman is heading for another big tax bonanza.

Never a more appropriate saying than the one that states that Rome burns while the politicians fiddle.
