There’s No Place Like Home, an adaptation of The Wizard of Oz, was collaboratively created by a company of homeless and housed individuals under the guidance of Twin Cities’ theater artists Maren Ward (co-artistic director of Bedlam Theatre) and Josef Evans (creator of the 2006 Fringe hit Love in a Time of Rinderpest). It toured shelters, churches, schools and theaters in the metro area during National Hunger and Homelessness Week, November 11-18, 2007.

“Once upon a time, on the plains of southern Minnesota, in a small town called Rushford, lived an ordinary woman with ordinary dreams… and a very irritating dog.”

And so begins There’s No Place Like Home, with an ordinary woman on the verge of an extraordinary journey. Having lost their home to flooding, Dorothy and Toto flee to the Twin Cities. Joined by Scarecrow, Rusty, and a tough-talking, soft-hearted Gambler, they set out to navigate the surreal and bewildering city streets in an attempt to find their way back home. Featuring live music, high drama, unexpected insight, and humor in the unlikeliest of places, There’s No Place Like Home is a theatre experience unlike anything you’ve seen before.

Funds for this activity were provided, in part, by the COMPAS Community Art Program through a grant from the McKnight Foundation; and by the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council through appropriation by the Minnesota legislature.
